Would you like to help Commanding Hands to promote British Sign Language (BSL)? Check out our latest vacancies below. The majority of our roles are voluntary positions so a passion for promoting the language is essential.

Community Moderator (voluntary role)
Location: Nationwide

To support BSL students on their learning journey by helping to ensure our Facebook learner’s support group is a safe space.

What you’ll do
Remove unwanted posts and revoke membership if necessary.
Issue warnings to members who do not follow the rules.
Answer questions using your knowledge and experience of BSL and the Deaf community.
Help to create a supportive forum for members to ask questions and share experiences.
Encourage engagement by creating interesting posts.

Person specification
You need to have experience of BSL and the Deaf community and be over 18 years old.

Graphics Designer (voluntary)
Location: Nationwide

To create “how to” images of signs for publication on our digital platforms, social media and potentially in print in the future.

What you’ll do
Create clear images of how to sign words and phrases in BSL.

Person specification
You need to have experience of BSL and the Deaf community and be over 18 years old.
You will need access to software enabling you to create images and save them in various formats.

BSL Teacher (rates to be agreed)
Location: Leicestershire

To deliver BSL lessons which will be posted online to help people on their learning journeys. These lessons will include answering questions from our audience.

What you’ll do
Create lesson plans suitable to be delivered to a virtual audience.
Answer questions posed by viewers.
Be available for filming at a location in Leicestershire at least once per month, date to be agreed.

Person specification
Be a qualified BSL teacher.
