July 2025 update

Hey signers ๐ŸคŸ

As the academic year wraps up, many of you might be finishing your BSL courses. We’re wishing you the best of luck with your exams and hope you get the results you’re looking for! Remember, if an exam doesn’t go your way, stay positive and consider a resit โ€“ true failure only happens when you give up.

For those looking to start a course in September, we wish you all the best. BSL is an incredibly rewarding language to learn and we hope you’ll soon be able to connect with your local Deaf community.

New YouTube Videos for Kids!
We’re excited to announce “Let’s Learn BSL,” a brand-new video series designed to help children learn BSL. We’ve just released five videos, all about different animals, with more to come in the next few months. Click here to watch the videos.

You can also download free flashcards for each sign in the videos. Click here for those!

While are some variations in signs for animals, they’re generally more consistent than other topics (such as colours!). You might notice our signs differ from those in popular children’s TV shows (such as Mr. Tumble) and that’s because our videos exclusively feature BSL signs, whereas those shows use Makaton signs.

We’ve included voiceovers in key parts of our children’s videos. However, we’ve intentionally avoided signing and speaking simultaneously to highlight that BSL is a visual language that doesn’t require speech. We hope these videos will be accessible and engaging for both deaf and hearing children. We’d love to hear your feedback! Click here to contact us.

Content Schedule

  • Every Monday: We release a BSL vocabulary receptive quiz with five short sentences on a specific topic.
  • Every Friday (Fingerspelling Friday): Get ready for our BSL fingerspelling quiz.

You can find both quizzes on our YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok channels. A huge thank you to everyone who watches and participates.

Online Course Update
We’ve been a bit ambitious with our release schedule for the online course sections and unfortunately, there will be a slight delay. We’re sorry for the delay, but Section 4 will be available by the end of July!
