June is upon us! Here’s what’s happening at Commanding Hands. 🤟
Daily shorts & reels
The daily short videos (shorts on YouTube, reels on Instagram & Facebook) are proving to be quite popular. Thank you to everyone who has watched, liked, commented or shared any of those videos. In the near future, we’ll be accepting requests – possibly from YouTube & Facebook members initially. We get quite a lot of requests, so it can be difficult to manage them. We’ve stopped releasing the videos on X (Twitter) in an attempt to streamline workflows, because it required an extra stage of editing to change the videos into a 1×1 format. We’ve also paused the daily videos on TikTok but we’re hoping to resume those soon.
The current schedule for daily short video uploads is as follows:
Saturday to Thursday: 10am on YouTube, 11am on Instagram and Facebook
Fridays (fingerspelling quiz): 8am on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.
The contact form was broken
My apologies to anyone who has attempted to contact us using the form on the contact page. It appears to have stopped working within the past few months and we haven’t had any messages. It’s fixed now, so please do reach out again if you have attempted to contact us. Sorry 🙇
We’re building a BSL Dictionary
Building a dictionary is a bit of a mammoth task, but we’ve made a start and will be adding new entries on a weekly basis. All entries will be uploaded to YouTube and categorised into playlists so you can bulk watch them. Feel free to embed the YouTube videos on your own blogs or sites. A personal update from Dan
I’ve got two updates to share with you. Firstly, when Commanding Hands relaunched earlier this year I made a decision to go all in on the project and requested to reduce my hours at my full-time job. That request was approved and has just commenced, meaning I’ve got more time to create content for Commanding Hands. Financially, it doesn’t make too much sense yet but my family are supportive and with a few cutbacks, we can just about make it work. You’ll notice an increase in content in the coming weeks and months.
The second piece of news is about my hearing. I’ve been having communication difficulties (in some situations) and finally went for a hearing test, which confirmed I do indeed have a hearing loss. I’m on the waiting list for hearing aids in both ears. The process can take some time and the waiting list is quite long, so it might not be until October or November until you notice me wearing hearing aids in videos. It’s only strengthened my commitment to provide BSL learning resources. 🤛
